A promising Cathedral could never

Save this grieving lost soul –

No shining Vatican empire nor

High-octane modern shall rescue us.

No therapy brings deepest heart healing.

We know our shame, we know our fear,

We know the darkness which leaves us reeling.

Only Jesus saves you & I

From a broken, fractured world

From the spell of religion

And from ourselves;

He died without telling one lie.

Patiently does He wait

To catch us in our great falling

At our desperate, despairing end.

Only Jesus lovingly restores our soul.

Son of Man, Son of God

Redeeming hound of heaven,

Everlasting wounded healer,

The only one who understands.

He is the One who binds our wounds

From our failings, from all those

Who failed us.

He saves us from the bitter gall,

Forgiving every sin,

Healing our humiliation ~

When we heard the whispering call.

Jesus our merciful saviour,

Darkness-bearer, Light-giver

And our most gracious

Eternal friend.

The one who shall never

Abandon us on that last night,

When we are full of days &

Are coming to our end.
