Sing of Songs
I walked down to your home one day
Resplendent in its glowing spring colours and knocked on the garden gate
And you welcomed me in, under the arch of jasmine and honeysuckle.
The fragrance and beauty overwhelmed, and your carefully tended orchids
Mesmerised me – their secrets, their promise and intrigue.
I turned and caught your glance. Soft exquisite eyes drew me on
And touched your skin, hand on mine, wrapped me in your soul
Folded around my spirit, I drew you to me and gasped
As I felt your sweet breath on my heart, as my heart drew in your breath.
You spoke silently, pulling me with you as we ran
To the giant oak, high swing swaying and laughing.
You dipped and swooped, gorgeous from afar –
I caught the scent of your closeness on return, intoxicated.
I carried you in our swirling waltz through the rose forest
Up this way down the next and through the rustling maze
And the glorious fountain in the heart of this riven dell
Our pounding anxious feet shake the giddy earth
Seismically, we make for the surf, headlong we plunge
With crashing spray and drenched we cling
Melted and welded in an instant in embrace.
Weightless, timeless, inseparable, in sweet limbo
Caressing the graceful rain in the sound of many waters
We catch our breath, exhilarated:
I, your Adam; you, my Eve.
This sanctuary, free, secret, shared and holy
We revisit communion, memory and magic.
